Remember, all content on this site is viewable by the general public, but only members can contribute content. Visit this wiki for the latest information about what's happening around Ashburton.
For official Ashburton news, visit the school's Web site. We invite all Ashburton faculty to create a page (in the Classroom Forum area for your grade on the left menu) for parents to post questions to you. This also gives you a vehicle to share information with your current and future students' parents. At the bottom of each wiki page, you can post discussion topics. If you are interested in a page, you can "watch" that page so you're notified by e-mail anytime content is updated, discussion threads are added, or comments are posted to the specific page. To watch a page, login as a member and select "Watch this page" from the "More Tools" menu on any page. This wiki is for the Ashburton Community at-large, and we encourage everyone to share information, start discussions, and make comments to the content. The more who participate, the more valuable the site will be for the whole community. We hope you'll visit and contribute to this site regularly!

A local mom and childcare provider, Florence Benjamin, who is also from Haiti, is organizing a clothes and first-aid items shipment for next Wednesday, courtesy of American Airlines. On the Haiti side, the shipment will be met by the wife of the Minister of Communications and Public Works. She has set up a mini hospital in the yard of her collapsed house. She is requesting over-the counter first aid supplies and medicines, clean lightweight clothing (especially for children). She has a nonprofit organization.
Please bring your donations to 6112 Lone Oak Drive, Bethesda. Ms. Benjamin (her son Richard is a WJ senior) lives here, and will take your donations and get them ready for shipment. They are both Haitian-Americans, and they are like-family to many NB families. You can contact Ms. Benjamin directly at (301) 793-9733 with questions and expressions of your support. We thank the State Department employee who offered assistance with this people-to-people miracle. And we thank American Airlines, who said they would take the donations to Haiti. The field hospital/refugee camp at Dominique’s (she is the recipient) is looking forward to receiving supplies and clothing. A couple of notes: Yes, shoes (closed toes) like sneakers are fine. Yes, adult clothes are fine. Remember, it is always summer weather down there. Yes, if you have a tent and/or sleeping bags, you can donate them. Thank you for your generosity. |

Collection of can tops for school fund raising is a health hazard for children. My daughter goes around collecting can tops from neighbors and our recycle bin and this is going out of control to impress school. Any thoughts to stop this to prevent sharp metal exposure and health hazards like Tetanus.

Calling all students, parents, alum, cluster families and all members of the Walter Johnson community...
There is no better way to start your Thanksgiving morning than with a 10K run or a 2 mile run. Join me and others for the annual Turkey Chase in Bethesda on Thanksgiving morning. Please register and make sure that you note Walter Johnson as your school affiliation. For the past two years, WJ has won the "Principal's Prize" ($1000) because we have had the highest number of affiliated participants. Currently, we are leading, but the lead over Whitman HS is very small and so we need everyone's help. As in past years, WJ will use this money to support our Access2College program through which we mentor first-generation college applicants. In advance, I thank you for your support of our incredible WJ community. www.turkeychase.com Christopher Garran, Ph.D. Principal Walter Johnson High School |
